Abstract

484,212. Carding-engines. PRIESTLEY, J. W., and WHITELEY, W. Nov. 4, 1936, No. 29983. [Class 120 (i)] The swifts Sand doffers D of carding and like machines are cleared by high-speed adjustable clearing rollers C which are mounted below the swift or doffer and normally inoperative but are brought into action by moving the belt S<4> on to a loose pulley S<3>, Figs. 1 and 2. This movement serves to drive a pulley A integral with or carried by the pulley S<3>, and on the application of a belt to the pulley A after the machine has been brought to rest to transmit rapid motion to the clearing rollers and slow motion to the machine itself through the members A<1> ... A<9>. The rollers C are provided with rows of angularly projecting pins C<1>, Fig. 3, and are mounted below the pivot C4 of a depending arm C<3> which is adjustable by a screwed rod R.
