Abstract

733,703. Capacitors. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Dec. 4, 1953 [Dec. 4, 1952], No. 30748/52. Class 37. [Also in Group XL (a)] An arrangement suitable for use as an airspaced or vacuum R.F. condenser comprises a metal tube 1 recessed at one end to receive an insulating tube 2 retained by a metal cap 3. The tube 2 has an internal two-start thread into which are screwed two electrodes 4 and 5 in the form of helical metal fins. Connecting leads 6 and 7 are spot-welded directly to the respective electrodes, the lead 7 being connected to the cap 3 and the lead 6 being taken through a glass-to-metal seal at the remote end (not shown) of the metal tube 1. Alternatively contact with the electrodes may be made via metal linings in the threads in the insulator. To provide an arrangement for differential operation one of the electrodes may be divided into two halves which are screwed into the tube 2 from opposite ends.
