Abstract

1,149,801. Vacuum variable capacitors. ENGLISH ELECTRIC VALVE CO. Ltd. 28 March, 1968 [17 May, 1967], No. 22923/67. Heading H1M. In an evacuated variable capacitor wherein part of the vacuum envelope comprises a bellows 14 to allow motion of mobile electrode 2, there is provided at least one auxiliary bellows 21 between a fixed part of the capacitor and the mobile electrode to provide a relatively low resistance path or paths for current flowing through the capacitor. The metal of bellows 14 may accordingly be selected for its mechanical properties and an insulating ring may be provided at one end of bellows 14 so that it carries no current. A number of bellows 21 may be provided circumferentially around bellows 14. Bellows 21 may be cooled by fluid admitted through hole 22. The bellows may be screwed into plate 10 carrying the mobile electrodes for ease of removal and replacement.
