Abstract
583,437. Oil-break switches. MASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKON. Oct. 27, 1944, No. 21008. Convention date, Nov. 5, 1943. [Class 38 (v)] A circuit - breaker comprises a single tubular insulator 9, wherein the arc is quenched in a liquid medium, mounted on a base 1 at earth potential containing the operating mechanism 4, 2, terminals 17, 11 being located, respectively, at the upper end of, and halfway up, the insulator 9. The insulator 9 may consist of a single piece or a plurality of pieces cemented together. A bellows 5 and a ring 8 seal the breaker, which is closed at the top by a metal hood 18, with apertures for outgoing gases and sound dampers or gas coolers, if required. The contact 3 is actuated by an insulating rod 6 on a guide 7 to move within a fixed contact device 10, connected to the terminal 11 by a conductor 21, one or two sealed lead-in conductors 12, and a ring cemented to the outside of the insulator 9. A current transformer 13, voltage transformer, and an arc-gap 14, 15 may be provided. The device 10, and the extinguishing chamber and fixed contact 16 are carried within an insulating cylinder 20, supported by a flange 19 mounted on the upper face of the insulator 9. Alternatively they may be carried on a full-length insulating cylinder supported by a flange ring in the base, Fig. 2 (not shown), and a voltage transformer in the form of a condenser voltage divider may be wound directly into the cylinder.
