Abstract
683,019. Electric condensers. GLOBEUNION, Inc. April 12, 1951, No. 8556/51. Class 37. An electric condenser comprises a ceramic tube 10, Fig. 2, having a conductive coating 14 extending over part of its outer surface, and an internal rotatable cylinder 24, cut away over part of its length (e.g. at 24) so that the capacity between the coating 14 and the internal cylinder varies with the rotation of the cylinder. The cylinder is held against axial movement by spring fingers 38 engaging a groove in the cylinder. The cylinder may be cut away on opposed sides, Fig. 8, and co-operate with two external electrodes so as to vary from minimum to maximum in 90 degrees of rotation. There may be two aligned extenal electrodes, Fig. 4, co-operating with one cylinder, as in Fig. 5, to facilitate ganging. The surface between the cylinder and the tube may be lubricated by a grease of high dielectric constant.
