Abstract

713,006. Sparking plugs. ROLLSROYCE, Ltd. July 4, 1952 [July 25, 1951], No. 17701/51. Class 7(4) In a spark plug of the type having its electrodes 10a, 11 separated by an insulator 12 and a surface 12a extending between the electrode tips 10c, 11b which is treated to be semi-conducting and .to have a negative temperature co-efficient of resistance, resilient means, such as springs 14 and/or 17, is provided to load the insulator 12 so that the surface 12a is urged into engagement with the tip of at least one of the electrodes under all conditions of operation. The spring 14 is located between two insulating washers 13 and a nut 15 on the threaded outer end of the centre electrode 11 whilst the spring 17 is located between a threaded plug 1 and a washer 16 on an insulator shoulder. An additional insulating sleeve may surround the exposed outer portion of the insulator 12.
