675,203. Sparking plugs. LUCAS, Ltd., J. June 23. 1950 [April 13, 1949], No. 10001/49. Class 7(iv) In a sparking plug comprising the combination, with a ceramic or equivalent insulator b mounted in a metal body part a, of an electrode d formed on or secured to the inner end of a stem c extending axially through the insulator, and an earthed electrode in the form of a sleeve e mounted on the inner end of the insulator b and spaced from the adjacent portion of the body a so as to form therewith an annular pocket f which is open at its under side, a narrow and circumferential spark gap is provided between the adjacent portion of the electrodes whilst the sleeve e is in contact with the body part a, at the inner end of the pocket f. The latter may be formed with lugs g in order to facilitate contact betwen the sleeve and the body. part. Since the plug is especially intended for use in a low-tension condenser discharge system a carbonaceous or other semi--conductive material may be deposited on the insulator between the electrodes.
