Abstract

Sparking-plugs.-In plugs in which the parts are retained in position by a nut b engaging the threaded outer end of the central electrode, conical bearing surfaces s<1> of small size are provided between the plug casing and the insulation. By thus reducing the bearing surface, a greater degree of pressure may be exerted by the tightening of the central electrode, the diameter of the electrode may be increased, and space may be left between the electrode and insulator. Conical adjoining surfaces may also be provided on the head k of the central rod and end of the insulator i. The spark may pass along the surface of the insulation. As shown in Fig. 4, the spark is required to pass between the terminal edges k, g over the edge of the insulation i.
