Abstract
559,920. Variable condensers. UNITED INSULATOR CO., Ltd., and WESTCOMBE, N. G. Sept: 8, 1942, No. 12657. [Class 37] A solid dielectric rotary variable condenser, for example, one with ceramic plates 1, 2, ground at their engaging surfaces, and held in contact by spring arms 10, is provided with a "labyrinth," as shown, to prevent access of moisture to the ground surfaces. This may be done by attaching a ring 12 of insulation to the outer edge of the stator 1 and a ring 14 to the rotor 2 to co-operate with a flange 13 and depression 15 on the rotor and stator respectively. The abutting surfaces at three points may be covered with damp-excluding material such as petroleum jelly.
