Abstract

730,909. Roller weighting arrangement. SCHIESS AKT.-GES. Jan. 22, 1953 [Jan. 23, 1952], No. 1849/53. Class 120(2). A spring loading device for twin pressure rollers is characterised by the fact that the pair of pressure rollers is maintained axially parallel with the lower roller solely by a holding member or arm which is prevented from being displaced laterally relatively to the lower roller and the upper pressure rollers and is prevented from turning about the axis of the lower roller by an abutment. In the embodiment shown a spring loading device is applied to a pair of pressure rollers 10 above a lower roller 1. The holding member or arm 7 of the loading device engages closely an annular recess 4 of roller 1. The other end of member 7 is formed into a slide guide 7<SP>1</SP> in which a slide piece 8 which is prevented from turning within its guide can move against the action of spring 6. The piece 8 is formed with a bearing groove for the shaft 9 of the rollers 10 so that the latter are held parallel with the lower roller 1. To prevent rotation of the loading device about the roller 1 a heel 11 abuts a fixed stop 12. Bearing bushes or needle bearings may be provided between the member 7 and the lower roller 1. In a second embodiment, by off-setting the line of action of the spring 6 from the axis of the lower roller 1. the pressure rollers are subjected to a restoring force as soon as they tend to twist around a vertical axis thus further helping to maintain the axes of the rollers parallel. In another embodiment a suitably shaped leaf spring is used as a holding and loading device.
