989, 150. Speed-frame flyers. C. EUGEN MAIER METALLVERARBEITUNG G.m.b.H. Dec. 11, 1963, No. 48916/63. Heading D1D. A flyer with a presser-foot 5 and presserarm 3 rotatably mounted on an arm 2 of the flyer, has a roller 7 mounted at the end of the foot with its axis parallel to the flyer-axis. The roller may be cylindrical or barrel-shaped, may be roughened or have a rubber &c cover, and may be mounted on plain or rolling bearings. A groove 5<SP>1</SP> may be provided in the foot. A spring 8 adjustable by a setscrew at 9<SP>1</SP> and bearing on a face 3<SP>1</SP> ensures that the roller bears on the package at constant pressure; as the roller moves outwardly as the package grows, the arm 3 moves inwardly and increases the force applied by the spring. For doffing the package, the end 4 of the presser arm is slipped into a retaining-notch in the flyer arm. In another form, the spring is constituted by a hinge-pin common to upper and lower hinges between the arms 2 and 3, set-screws being provided for adjusting the force of the spring.
