Abstract

568,724. Bearings. RICKENMANN, A. Jan. 14, 1943, No. 694. [Class 12 (i)] A layer of oil under pressure is disposed between a conical surface on a spindle subjected to radial and axial loads and a conical bush with axial grooves. The spindle may have two oppositely-tapered surfaces, the corresponding bushes having relative displacement under spring control. The spindle 3, Fig. 1, has a conical part 23 within a conical bush 2, which is provided with oil grooves 26, 27 and a bore 28 leading to a pressure supply-pipe 5, the bush being secured by a pin 24 engaging a groove 25 on the bed 1. Axial pressure on spindle 3 is compensated by springs 6 arranged between a roller bearing 4 and a disc 7 running on a ball bearing 8. Axial movement into the bush is limited by a thrust ball 9, in a conical recess 31 in the spindle, engaging a steel disc 10 within a screw 11. In a modification, Fig. 3, the spindle 15 has two conical parts 35, 36 engaging conical bushes 13, 14 secured by pins and grooves to the bed 1. One bush 14 has an adjustable stop ring 17 secured by a screw 38, and is pressed axially towards it by springs 16.
