Abstract

913,093. Bearings. HEALD MACHINE CO. Feb. 27, 1961 [Feb. 29, 1960], No. 7128/61. Class 12 (1). [Also in Groups XXII and XXIII] The outer race 13 of a ball-bearing mounted in a grinding machine (Group XXIII) is supported against axial movement. The inner race 12 is moved downwardly relatively to the outer race 13 by a predetermined force exerted by coil springs 32. The top face of the outer race 13 is then ground flush with the top face of the inner race 12. When the bearing is in use it is so mounted that the top faces of the inner and outer races are in a common plane whereby the same preload will exist in the bearing as existed during grinding.
