Abstract

877,027. Adjusting bearings. TIMKEN ROLLER BEARING CO. Aug. 26, 1959 [Oct. 6, 1958], No. 29167/59. Class 12 (1). A device for adjusting the pre-load on a tapered roller bearing 36 comprises annular members 54, 60 having co-operating circumferentially disposed wedge surfaces 76, 90. The members 54, 60 are secured to a supporting structure by bolts 62 passing through holes 72 in the member 54 and passing through elongated slots in the member 60. The outer bearing race 42 is adapted to slide in its housing and is engaged by a flange 80 of the member 60. Partial rotation of the member 60 with respect to the member 54 effects axial movement of the race 42.
