Abstract
730,000. Discharge apparatus. SPERRY GYROSCOPE CO., Inc. Aug. 8, 1947 [Nov. 5, 1943], No. 22127/47. Class 39 (1). [Also in Groups XL (b) and XL (c)] An electric-discharge tube used in a pulse direction-finding system (see Group XL (c)) serves as a switch by providing a shortcircuit and preventing the transmission of energy through a wave-guide assembly. The tube which is mounted in a resonant cavity in the wave-guide comprises a partly evacuated glass envelope 214, into which are fused metallic discs 208, 209 formed with points 212, 213, and which contains an ionizable medium, such as neon, at such a pressure that the potential arising between the points due to the transmitted energy is insufficient to cause a breakdown. To condition the tubes to break down a control potential is applied to an igniter anode 215 terminating adjacent a hole 216 in point 212.
