Abstract

613,906. Metal-vapour lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., FRANCIS, V. J., and NELSON, E. H. March 22, 1944, No. 5388. [Class 39 (i)] In a high-pressure mercury-vapour projection lamp of the type in which the distance between any pair of electrodes between which a discharge passes in normal operation, is much less than the distance of either electrode from the envelope, a plurality of electrodes are arranged with their discharge termination surfaces in a ring, and their axes in a plane, about an axis on or about which, lie an electrode or electrodes of opposite polarity, having its, or their, discharge termination surfaces displaced from the plane of the ring. As shown, the anode 3 is slightly behind the plane of the ring containing the axes of the cathode rods 4. The cathodes 5 may be pointed as shown, or flat. A shield or reflector 6 is arranged behind the electrode system. The anode may comprise more than one electrode, as described in Specification 579,272, arranged symmetrically around the axis of the ring of cathodes. Specification 579.375 also is referred to.
