Abstract
729,720. Bearings. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Oct. 28, 1953 [Nov. 14, 1952], No. 29735/53. Class 12 (1). [Also in Group XXII] A bearing comprises a steel backing 10 having a layer of silver 14 bonded thereto and an indium diffusion 16 in the exposed surface of the silver layer. The silver layer is of thickness 0.005 to 0.100 inch and the indium is an electro-deposited coating 0.00005 to 0.0003 inch thick. The indium diffusion is provided by heat treatment at 300‹ to 800‹ F. for at least 30 minutes. A flash layer of nickel or copper may be interposed between the silver and backing, and an overlay of lead tin or lead indium alloy may be applied to the indium surface.
