Abstract

577,335. Electrolysis. VANDERVELL PRODUCTS, Ltd. (Cleveland Graphite Bronze Co.). Feb. 10, 1944, No. 2498. [Class 41] [Also in Group XXXIV] A lead-antimony alloy wearing surface on a bearing is formed by the simultaneous electro deposition of .lead and antimony on an intermediate layer of copper, silver or bronze, or alloys thereof, which has been bonded to a steel backing. The wearing surface alloy may also include tin. For a wearing surface containing 4¢-6¢ per cent. tin, 1¢-2¢ per cent. antimony, and the balance lead, there is used a bath containing lead 110, tin 6, antimony 1, resorcinol 5, gelatin 1, and fluoboric acid 60, grams per litre. Anodes of lead-tin alloy (5 per cent. tin) and a current density of 20 amperes per square foot at room temperature are used. A thin preliminary bonding layer of tin may be electro deposited.
