573,636. Electroplating. VANDERVELL PRODUCTS, Ltd., and GREEN, D. F. Dec. 13, 1943, No. 20863. [Class 41] [Also in Groups II and XXXIV] A surface of bronze, lead-bronze alloy, copperlead alloy, silver-lead alloy, or silver, forming an intermediate layer of a bearing having a steel backing, is prepared for bonding thereto of the final layer of lead or lead-base alloy, by being etched in a solution of 880 ammonia and 5-25 per cent. of 100 vol. hydrogen peroxide prior to electrodeposition of the final layer. Figures of relative proportions and times of treatment for the different intermediate layers are given. The following alloys are specified, (1) copper 70 per cent., lead 30 per cent., (2) copper 70 per cent., lead 25 per cent., tin 5 per cent., and (3) bronze 95:5.
