Abstract
718,073. Bearings. GLACIER METAL CO., Ltd. May 6, 1953 [May 30, 1952], No. 13795/52. Class 12(1) [Also in Group XXII] A composite bearing comprises a backing of steel 1, a layer of copper-lead 2 containing less than 25 per cent lead and having a thickness of from 0.005 to 0.100 inch bonded to the backing, the copper-lead layer having parallel grooves 3 in its bore extending lengthwise of the bearing and a soft metal over-lay 5 of tin-lead alloy containing from 5 per cent to 15 per cent of tin, or lead with 5 per cent to 15 per cent indium, zinc with 5 per cent to 25 per cent tin or tin with copper and antimony said over-lay having a minimum thickness of 0.0005 inch. The grooves are from 0.002 to 0.010 inch in depth, 0.002 to 0.012 inch in width and are spaced apart not more than 0.060 inch. The copper-lead may contain up to 10 per cent of tin with not more than 2 per cent of zinc, nickel or silver.
