Abstract
A bearing comprises a bearing lining consisting of an alloy of gold and 1-40 per cent. of thallium. Part of the gold may be replaced by silver to give a composition gold 25-50 per cent., silver 25-50 per cent. and thallium 1-40 per cent. Up to 5 per cent. of the thallium may be replaced by indium or tin. The lining may be bonded to a backing of steel, nickel alloy or copper alloy, by casting, plating or spraying. The lining may be formed by plating the backing with the gold or silver, then plating on the other elements in the form of an alloy or separate metals and heating to a temperature sufficient to cause the metals to diffuse into each other.
