Abstract

787,412. Bearing linings. GLACIER METAL CO., Ltd. May 24, 1956 [June 10, 1955], No. 16842/55. Class 12 (1). A bearing comprises a steel backing, an interlayer bonded to the backing and consisting of an aluminium-tin alloy containing between 10 and 30 per cent of tin, which may also include not more than 5 per cent of other alloying elements, and a lining of relatively soft metal bonded to the interlayer and having a thickness of between 0.0002 inches and 0.006 inches. The lining may be formed of tin or tin-base alloy, lead or lead-base alloy, or aluminium or aluminium-base alloy. The latter may have a tin content of between 40 and 50 per cent. In the case of linings containing lead, a barrier layer of copper or aluminium 0.00005 to 0.0002 inches thick may be interposed between the interlayer and the lining.
