Abstract

729,501. Grab-buckets; opening and closing mechanism. PRIESTMAN BROS., Ltd. Nov. 27, 1953 [Nov. 27, 1952], No. 30121/62. Class 78(4). A wide opening grab is operated by a member 16 moving along the line bi-secting the angle between the arms 6 of the grab and bearing upon downwardly diverging radial or nearly radial surfaces 13 on the arms. In the construction illustrated, the member 16 is the cross-head of a double-acting pneumatic ram 3 and is rigid with arms 15 bearing rollers 14 which engage in slots 12 providing the surfaces 13 and formed in plates 11 secured to the arms 6. The pivots 4 of the arms 6 on the head are joined by a link 9 and teeth 10 on the arms ensure their synchronism. The pneumatic ram 3 may be replaced by a hydraulic ram or a screw jack operated. by a reversible electric motor.
