Abstract

817,574. Percussive tools. HARDY, E. Oct. 9, 1956 [Oct. 10, 1955], No. 28835/55. Class 124. A pneumatic tool has an attachment comprising a thrust wedge adapted to be driven by the tool at least two other wedges with means for attachment to the tool the thrust wedge being driven by the tool between the other two wedges. As shown, a thrust wedge 7 has a shank 8 formed to fit the tool holder of a percussive tool, and the thin edge enters between a second pair of wedges 11 each of which is connected by a bolt 19, 20 to a rectangular plate 15 with the interposition of a knife edge 22 and a spring 21. A second rectangular plate 14 is bolted to the tool and has an arm 16 pivotally connected to it at each corner the free ends of the arms being pivotally connected to the free ends of similar arms pivoted to the plate 15. A coil spring 18 biases the arms 16 into the extended position. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the spring 18 is replaced by a pair of cylinder and piston devices.
