Abstract

729,240. Magnetic amplifiers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and- DALE, S. H. Sept. 23, 1953 [Sept. 23, 1952], No. 23866/52. Class 40 (4). In a magnetic amplifier, A.C. windings 7, 8, a tapped output impedance 3 and a choke 4 are connected to form a Wheatstone bridge which is balanced when the current in the D.C. control windings 9, 10 is zero. Since the A.C. terminals 1 are connected across one diagonal and the output is taken from the other, i.e. across choke 3, no current flows in the load 6 when the control current is zero. When supplying a load current, the choke 3 acts as an auto-transformer and the effect of the connection of choke 4 is negligible.
