Abstract

720,197. Magnetic amplifiers. ULTRA, ELECTRIC, Ltd. Oct. 21, 1952 [Feb. 9, 1952], No. 3476/52. Class 40 (4). Magnetic amplifiers 1-3 connected in cascade have positive or negative feed-back proportional to the rate of change of output applied to the first amplifying stage from one of the succeeding stages, the feed-back current being directly induced in an amplifier winding 4 when the D.C. flux varies. A rectifier 7 may be included in the feed-back circuit to render the feed-back effective for changes of D.C. excitation in one direction only. Instead of providing a feed-back winding 5 on the first amplifier stage, the feed-back may be applied directly to the control circuit across a series-connected resistor, Fig. 2 (not shown). The arrangement may also be applied to push-pull amplifiers, the individual feedbacks of the two amplifiers being applied to separate or to common windings on the first amplifying stage. Alternatively the two feed-backs may be combined in a resistance network which injects an E.M.F. into the control circuit.
