707,878. Magnetic amplifiers. AUTO. MATIC ELECTRIC LABORATORIES, Inc. Sept. 6, 1950 [Sept. 6, 1949], No. 21957/50. Class 40 (4) [Also in Group XXXV] In a voltage control system as disclosed in Specification 633,840 (in which a cascaded magnetic amplifier 13, 14, 15, 16, controls a saturable reactor 10 in series with the A.C. input to a rectifier) an additional winding 10d is provided on the reactor 10 and is connected in series with the control winding 15c of the amplifier reactor 15. Any change in the current in the control winding 10b causes a voltage to be induced in winding 10d in such a sense as to oppose the corresponding change in current in the winding 15c and thus improve the stability. Also, due to distortion of the flux wave form as the saturation of the core of reactor 10 is increased, the second harmonic of the magnetic flux due to the A.C. windings links with the winding 10d and the voltage induced, when rectified by rectifier 19, assists the control current in winding 15c and increases the sensitivity of the amplifier.
