Abstract
818,405. Magnetic amplifiers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. May 31, 1956 [May 31, 1955], No. 16865/56. Class 40 (9). In a magnetic amplifier two windings are connected to a load circuit and an A.C. power supply, a tapping on each of the windings being connected with an impedance which shunts current from the load circuit and in consequence improves linearity of the input/output characteristic near zero. The shunt also reduces variation of output due to variation of the A.C. supply. As shown in Fig. 1, windings 14, 16 on cores 12, 13 are connected in series with the primary of a transformer 22 the output of which is rectified and dissipated in a load 26 in series with regenerative feedback windings 8 and 9. Control windings 15, 17 are connected to a source of D.C. The shunt impedance 10 may be resistive but is preferably inductive to match the windings 14, 16, the taps from which are centre taps so that the shunt absorbs minimum power. The invention is also shown applied to a fullwave push-push amplifier supplied with A.C. from a centre-tapped transformer (Fig. 4, not shown).
