Abstract

729,209. Powder distributers. DRAKE & FLETCHER, Ltd., and SMITH, A. P. Nov. 26, 1952 [Dec. 4, 1951], No. 28391/51. Class 6 (1). [Also in Group XXIX] An insecticide sprayer or distributer comprises a base unit including means for generating a stream of air and means for feeding insecticide into the airstream, and an auxiliary unit detachably attached to the base unit and including a prime mover adapted to be connected to and to drive, the airstream generating means. The units include separable frameworks 1, 2 which are secured together by clamps 3, and the framework 2 supports an axial flow fan 23 supported in an L-shaped air duct 21. A circular series of spray nozzles 38 are mounted in the duct and powder insecticide is also fed to the duct via a pipe 52 from a hopper 46, its flow being controlled by a valve 49. The framework 1 supports an I.C. engine 5 which drives a pump 9 feeding liquid insecticide to the nozzles. A detachable coupling shaft 27 is mounted between the engine and fan shafts. The horizontal limb of the air duct is fixed to the framework and the other limb, which contains air deflectors 36, is rotatable about the horizontal limb so that the liquid or powder can be distributed as desired. The outlet ends of the duct may comprise a detachable tapered portion. Handles 4 on both frameworks 5 enable the separate units to be transported by hand. Specification 729,299 is referred to.
