Abstract

809,676. Spray-producers. DRAKE & FLETCHER Ltd. March 21, 1956 [Sept. 15, 1955], No. 36442/55. Class 69 (3). Liquid fed through inlets 10, Fig. 1, to the casing of a spray nozzle 2 is whirled by helical vanes 4 before leaving the outlet 3 in spray form. A tube 7 communicates with an aperture centrally of the vanes and connects with a pipe 8 fitted with a valve and leading back to the liquid source so that, depending on the valve position, a variable proportion of the liquid passing the vanes will be returned to the source. In order to spray trees &c. the nozzle is mounted within an air hose, and a baffle 11 is attached. to the nozzle to direct air about its outlet. Alternatively a spray boom for crops consists of a number of such nozzles, without baffles, connected to a common liquid supply line, and their return pipes are connected to a single return conduit. A modified nozzle construction for mounting across the air stream outlet of a fan-type blower includes liquid inlet and return pipes 10 and 8 respectively, Fig. 4, rotatably mounted in bearings 23 mounted in pipe supports. Spray from the outlet 3 can thereby be directed in the same direction as, or in a direction opposite to, the air stream. The tube 7 has helical vanes 4 and is a sliding fit in the nozzle casing; spray liquid is fed to the annular space between the tube and nozzle casing.
