726,294. Thread cleaning device. ZELLWEGER AKT.-GES. APPARATE-UND MASCHINENFABRIKEN USTER. Aug. 13, 1953 [Oct. 18, 1952], No. 22369/53. Class 120 (2). A thread-cleaning device comprises elements which define a slot through which thread can pass, one of the slot-defining elements being pivotally mounted for movement towards and away from the other, so that the edges defining the slot are readily accessible, and a disengageable locking device for preventing the one element moving away from the other. As shown the device consists of a base plate 1 on which is fixed an adjustable blade 3 and a pivoted movable blade 5. A tension spring 7 secured at its ends on the blade 5 and the base plate 1 tends to turn the blade 5 in a clockwise direction. Such movement is normally prevented however by a latch 10 engaging a projection 14 of the blade 5. To clean the blades the latch 10 is turned about its pivot 11 against the action of spring 12. The blade 5 then snaps into the position 5<SP>1</SP>. In a second embodiment the movable blade is arranged to move away from the fixed blade in a direction parallel to itself and the locking means is adjustable so as to permit adjustment of the slot between the blades. The edges of the blades which define the slot may be parallel to one another or they may converge.
