878,797. Mechanical relay and follow-up devices. VOIGTLANDER A.G. Jan. 20, 1960 [Jan. 23, 1959], No. 2129/60. Class 118. A mechanical scanning device for the lockable indicating position of an instrument pointer 6 comprises a carrier member 18 (Fig. 1), ), rotatably mounted on a fixed axis 19, having pivoted thereto, at 22, a second member 23 which is very lightly spring-urged against a stop 27 on the carrier member, and is so arranged that while scanning over the range of the pointer 6 its free end 28 moves close to a fixed arcuate clamping surface 7 while it lies at a trailing angle α to the radius of the clamping surface through its free end 28, which angle α is less than the limiting angle of friction between it and the surface 7. When the member 23 makes contact via its downwardly projecting pin 30 with the pointer 6, it is rocked clockwise away from the stop 27 and unslippably locks itself endwise against the surface 7, thus arresting the movement of the scanning device. The scanning movement of -the device is effected by movement of the slider 13 from left to right, which movement also causes the bow member 10 to press the pointer 6 against the surface 12, thus to maintain the pointer stationary during the scanning process. In the modification of Fig. 3 the carrier member 18a is an arm pivoted at 19a which carries at its outer end a pointer-like second member 23a, pivoted at 22a, which strikes the upturned end of the pointer 6.
