Abstract

775,576. Thermal switches. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., HOWARTH; P., and RYCROFT, J. L. May 11, 1955 [May 11, 1954], No. 13731/54. Class 38(5) A snap action mechanism suitable for use in a switch comprises a toggle assembly formed by a lever 2 biased by a spring 10 and pivoted at 6, a bowed spring 3 pivotally engaging the lever at 5, and a tension member 4 connected to the free end of the bowed spring 3 and secured at 11. The spring 3 and member 4 are limbs of a trifurcated blade which carries a contact 12 which co-operates with a fixed contact 13. The opening -movement is limited by an adjustable stop 14. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown), the pivot for the lever is a spindle mounted on brackets on the base. The Provisional Specification describes a further pivoting means in which a turned down portion of the lever engages a groove in the horizontal part of the base. The switch is operated by an expanding rod acting on the point 9. Specification 653,139 is referred to.
