Abstract
910,813. Cam-operated switches. HOOVER Ltd. July 7, 1961 [July 15, 1960], No. 24710/61. Class 38 (5). [Also in Group XXIII] An electrical appliance includes a body having an elongated handle pivotally connected to it to move between operative and inoperative positions, and arranged to actuate a switch to switch off the appliance when the handle is moved to an inoperative position, and further comprises a U-shaped bracket 16, Fig. 2, mounted on the body and affording a bearing for a pivot shaft 21 secured to an arm 31 of the handle bail, an end 22 of shaft 21 extending through hub 24 of a switch actuating member 25. Cam surface 75 of member 25 presses in plunger 74 of switch 70 to open the switch when the appliance handle is moved to its inoperative position, Fig. 3. Shaft 21 also carries a locking sector 56 which co-operates with a foot-operated locking lever 55, detent 57 of sector 56 engaging surface 64 of an arm 63 of lever 55 to lock the handle in its inoperative position. Leg 19 of bracket 16 supports switch 70, and also supports lever 55 via tension spring 66.
