Abstract
928,047. Floor cleaning appliances. HOOVER Ltd. Aug. 4, 1959 [Aug. 8, 1958], No. 26629/59. Class 138 (1). An electrically-operated floor cleaning appliance has an elongated body which in the working position extends upwardly and rearwardly, and wheels 26 mounted on a frame 20 pivoted relatively to the body so as to be movable from an operative position in which the frame 20 projects downwardly and rearwardly from the body, to a retracted position in which it lies close to the body, a switch 45 controlling the appliance being operated by movement of the frame 20 relative to the body. The frame 20 is moved to the operative position against the action of a torsion spring 27 by the application of pressure to a foot pad 30, a pin 32 sliding up the ramp 53 formed by the upper limb 40 of a notch 38 in a latch arm 31 which is pivoted to the body beneath the frame 20. A torsion spring 41 surrounding the pivot 36 of the latch arm 31 urges this arm in an upward or anticlockwise direction thus maintaining the pin 32 in the notch 38 until released by pressure applied to a foot pad 43 on one end of a latch actuating member 42. The push-push switch 45 which, in the embodiment described, operates a fan motor, is arranged to be actuated by an arm 47 pivoted coaxially with the frame 20, the pivoted end being formed at 51 to abut against the top wall 21 of the frame 20 so that, if the latter is pressed down by means of the pad 30 from the operative position shown in Fig. 3, the free end of the arm 47 will engage the knob 50 of the switch 45. Specification 928,046 is referred to.
