Abstract

723,686. Hand-actuating devices for switches. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and VALE, D. F. June 8, 1953 [June 6, 1952], No. 14341/52. Class 38 (5) [Also in Group XXIII]. The motor 11 of an appliance, e.g. a floor polishing machine, having a handle 20 with a stirrup 18 pivoted at 19 to the polisher body 10, is controlled by a switch 13 whose spring-loaded plunger 14 is urged outwardly to the "on" position. The plunger .14 is controlled by a projection 21 on a lever 15 pivoted at 16 and engaged by a roller 17 on the handle 20 such that when the handle is in the vertical parking position or within about 35 degrees of such position the switch 13 is maintained " off," whereas further movement of the handle beyond a point 23 on the lever 15 permits the latter to rise and the switch to close, the lever movement being limited by a lip 22. The handle is held in the vertical position by a spring 24 apertured at 25 to receive a protuberance 26 on the stirrup, the handle being released by depressing a knob 27 on the spring 24.
