Abstract

688,447. Snap-action switches. VAN DER HEEM N. V. July 2, 1951 [June 30, 1950], No. 15590/51. Class 38 (v) A foot-operated switch of the "successive actuation" type comprises a foot operated member 1 pivoted on a shaft 7 and having a slot 4 containing a resilient member 6 engaging in a groove in a reciprocable part 9, the latter engaging the lever 13 of a tumbler switch 2. The groove has an arcuate portion 10, a portion 12 having a U-shaped part and a portion 11, the bottom of which is inclined so as to provide a shoulder at the side of the portion 10. When the member 1 is depressed against the action of a spring 8, the end of the resilient member 6 is constrained to move in the groove portion 10 until it enters the groove portion 12, the bias of the member 6 causing its end to move into the centre of the U-shaped part. On the release of the member 1, the member 6 moves the part 9 to the right to actuate the switch. On the subsequent depression of the member 1 the part 9 is moved back to the left by the member 6 to restore the switch to its initial position, and at the same time the end of the member 6 moves along the groove portion 12 to the end of the groove portion 11, so that when the member 1 is released, the end of the member 6 is moved along the groove portion 11 into the groove portion 10 without moving the part 9. An indicator plate 14, visible through a window in the apparatus in which the switch is fixed, may be fixed to the part 9.
