In a suction cleaner of the hand propelled type wherein adjustment of a nozzle 11 from a normal operating height to a " high position is effected by a frame 25 biased away from the cleaner body 10 by a spring 32 and carrying rear wheels 21 and an abutment 43 arranged to be engaged by a latch lever 35 movable past a dead centre between engaged and disengaged positions, and having means e.g., a hook 38 holding the frame 25 against the spring 32 when the rear end of the cleaner body 10 is pressed down and the latch 35 is moved to its engaged position, a foot or hand operated lever arm 37 extends through a slot 39 and indicates to the user the position of the latch lever 35. The arm is held in either position by a spring 47 secured to a body lug 49, said spring passing over the lever pivot 36 as said lever moves from either position to the other. A frame lug 28 engages the undersurface of the body 10 to limit counterclockwise movement of the frame 25 about a pivot pin 26 and when in the " high position the lug 28 prevents insertion of a converter tool into a port provided therefor.
