Abstract
716,150. Suction cleaners. HOOVER, Ltd. May 2, 1952 [May 3, 1951], No. 11206/52. Class 8 (1). Nozzle. height adjustment of a handle propelled suction cleaner having a converter 60, Fig. 4, for off-the-floor cleaning is effected within the operating range by a single manually actuated member e.g., a lever 44, and the nozzle is raised to an inoperative position by actuation of a portion 66, Fig. 2, of the lever 44 projecting into the path of the converter when the latter is introduced. To adjust the nozzle within the operating range the lever 44 is swung about a rivet 51 so that one or other of grooves 46, 47, Fig. 3, of different depths in its downturned end 45 become seated in a cam seat 56 at a crank 55 of a front wheel supporting shaft 17, and to raise the nozzle to its inoperative position the lever 44 is pushed forward by a shoulder on the converter against a spring 54 until one or other of the grooves 46, 47 engages a cam seat 57 in the crank 55; the lever being guided by slots 50, 52, the rivet 51 and a second rivet 53. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 680,315.
