Abstract
667,865. Suction cleaners. HOOVER, Ltd. Jan. 25, 1950. [Feb. 15, 1949], No. 1976/50. Class 8 (i) In a suction cleaner of the handle propelled type comprising a brush 30 within the nozzle 13 and rotated through a belt 32 from a fan shaft pulley 23, the brush is raised relative to the nozzle out of contact with the carpet by means which also slackens the belt 32 sufficiently to ,render the drive inoperative. The brush shaft 38 is mounted at the ends of arms 35 pivoted to the nozzle at a shaft 36 and is raised by depressing a lever 45 rigid with the pivot shaft 36 on lifting the handle 61 to its storage position thereby allowing a projection 46 to abut the lever 45, e.g. prior to the introduction of a converter. Nozzle height adjustment is effected manually by a nut 54 which controls the height above the floor of the rear wheels 12. The handle 61 is held in its storage position by engagement of a roller 57 carried by a biased arm 56 -in a recess 59 of a.sector 60 secured to the motor fan casing 10 which is integral with said handle 61.
