Abstract

1320191 Suction cleaners HOOVER Ltd 30 June 1970 [1 July 1969] 31626/70 Heading A4F [Also in Divisions F2, B7] A forward-reverse drive D (see Division F2) may be fitted to make self propelled a vacuum cleaner having a handle assembly 12 movable between an operating position (shown) and an erect storage position in which the drive is held in neutral. The vacuum may be created by a fan 18 mounted on an electric motor from which drive belts 28, 32 drive an agitator 30 and the drive D connected to wheels 114, 116. The assembly 12 may be held in its storage position by a recess 152 thereon engaging a latch 154 pivoted at 148 and releasable by moving a pedal 156. As the handle assembly 12 approaches its upright position, a roller 172 thereon may engage a shaped end 164 of a lever pivoted at 162 to raise a housing B including a suction nozzle 20 and the agitator 30 clear of the ground exposing the end of a suction pipe 22 to which other tools (e.g. for cleaning curtains) may be attached. The housing B may be supported in its lowered position, partly by a spring (186) Fig.4 (not shown). The housing B and assembly 12 may be pivotally mounted co-axially with the motor 14 in a wheeled frame 72, 74. The pivot, Fig.5 may be different in each of two holes in members 72, 74 of the frame. In the member 74 a graphite impregnated nylon brush 232 mounts a pin 224 passing through a hole 222 in the assembly 12 and a bracket 256 on the housing B. The motor shaft 26 passes through the member 72 being mounted in a bearing 196 in the assembly 12 on which a boss 192 with an aluminium sleeve 218 which engages two C-shaped flanged parts 198 of graphite filled nylon and fitted into a hole 130 of the member 72. The parts 198 are encircled by a flange of a bracket 240 fixed to the housing B by screws 248.
