427,037. Controller handles. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London, and GARRARD, C. C., c/o General Electric Co., Ltd., Witton, Birmingham. Oct. 16, 1933, No. 28638. [Class 38 (iii)] A controller comprising a number of pressbuttons or levers 4 includes a " dead-man's " handle in the form of a grip 8 attached to the controller by flexible means 7 through which the control is effected, so that the hand exerting the " dead-man " control may also be used to actuate the press-buttons or levers. The grip may include a spring controlled switch 12, 13, in which case the connection 7 is a flexible conductor, or the grip may operate pneumatically through a flexible tube, or mechanically by means known under the Registered Trade Mark of a " Bowden Wire." A reversing key 14, which can be withdrawn only in the " off " position, is interlocked with the plug 6 by which the " dead-man's " grip 8 is connected to the controller so that the plug can only be removed from the socket 5 when the reversing key is in the " off " position. The removal of the plug locks the reversing key in the " off " position. The grip 8 may be attached to the controller by means of mechanism including universal joints or by means of a flexible spring. The press-buttons which are operative to exert control only when the reversing spindle is in an operative position, may require only a momentary operation or may be latched in until the stop button is pressed. The grip 8 may have a projection for operating the buttons which may be so positioned in relation to the controller enclosure that the grip must be used to operate them.
