Abstract

959,112. Locking levers. H. C. WEBB & CO. Ltd. Oct. 4, 1962 [Oct. 7, 1961], No. 36129/61. Heading F2E. [Also in Division B7] A hand control device, comprising a lever 10 pivotally mounted between two spaced limbs 17 of a bracket 11 for securing the hand lever to a suitable handle part 20 of a power-driven machine or implement, is provided with a locking bolt 12 consisting of a stem 27 and a hook 28 passed through the two limbs of the bracket, the hook end, which is curved over through 180 degrees, being arranged to reenter, through a hole 29 in one bracket limb 17, the space between the limbs, with its end projecting into the path of the hand lever to retain the lever in an inoperative position, the hook end being withdrawable from the path of the lever, to release the lever from the inoperative position, by sliding movement of the locking bolt relative to the bracket. Fig. 2 shows a hand lever for controlling a clutch, held in the clutch-disengaged position by the end of the hook 28 projecting across an edge of a part 14 on the end of the lever, which is held back towards the handle part 20. For controlling an electric switch the inoperative position of the lever, i.e. the switch-open position, is as in Fig. 7, where the lever is held away from the handle part, and the end of the hook 28 here enters a recess 39 formed in the part 14 of the hand lever. The bolt is urged into its locking position by a spring 30, Fig. 5, and to release it a rubber end cap 36 is pressed, this cap enclosing a spring adjusting nut 35. On the outside of the bracket limb 17 a sector-shaped plate 31 is spot welded, Fig. 3, this plate having a hole 32 opposite the hole 29 and another hole 33, the end of which is blanked by the limb 17, forming a recess into which the end of the locking bolt enters when rotated to an unlocking position. The same purpose may be served by notches in the ends of the plate 31.
