Abstract
850,641. Electromagnetic switches. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO. Ltd. Jan. 18, 1957 [Oct. 20, 1955], No. 26886/55. Class 38 (5). [Also in Group XXXII] A spring for mounting between a pivoted arm such as the clapper armature of a contactor and a fixed support is connected to the arm and/or support by an adjustable member having two separate means of adjustment. As applied to a contactor the armature 3 is pivoted about an axis 4a to move between the full and dotted line position under the influence of an electromagnet 2. One end of the spring 5 has its cap 5b engaging a knife edge 6a on a bracket fixed to the .contactor frame 1. The other end of the spring has its cap 5b engaging a knife edge 7a on a member 7 which is slotted at 7b where it is bolted to the armature 3. Adjustment of the relative positions of the armature and the edge 7a is made by the slot and bolt and/or bending of the member 7. The Specification states that the line through the knife edges 6a, 7a may coincide with the line through the knife edge 6a and the axis 4a in the dotted line position or the lines may cross during operation causing reversal of the spring force on the arm, its reverse movement on de-energisation being initiated by gravity.
