Abstract
In apparatus for the aqueous liquid treatment of artificial textile threads comprising a pair of identical rollers over and along which the thread can pass in a number of spaced convolutions, the rollers are divided into two or more treatment zones, each roller has a single circumferential continuous groove between each pair of zones, the rollers are arranged with the grooves opposite to one another and substantially in the same plane, and an external thread guide is provided between each pair of zones to locate the thread on either side of the <PICT:0723780/IV (a)/1> grooves and thus prevent it from entering the grooves. Preferably the edges of each groove are straight and each groove is at right angles to the axis of the roller. In order to assist the initial threading-up of the rollers, one part of the rollers may be axially movable, in order that the groove can be closed temporarily, or one part of the rollers may have a sleeve which can be moved axially to close the groove. As shown, a thread 3 travels over and along two canted cantilever rollers 1 and 2 having initial stepped portions 4 and 5 from which the thread 3 is led on to the main parts of rollers 1 and 2 by a thread guide 6. The main parts of rollers 1 and 2 are divided longitudinally into two treatment zones by continuous circumferential grooves 7. A thread guide 8 locates the thread on either side of the grooves 7. The rollers 1 and 2 are mounted on shafts 9 driven through gearing 10 by a motor (not shown). The lower roller 2 is tilted slightly downwards to the thread entrance end. A pipe 11 supplies a liquid to the lower roller 2. The liquid separates from the rollers 1 and 2 in the region of the grooves 7 and collects in the drip-pan 12. Surplus liquid carried over by the thread 3 from the coagulation bath collects in a drippan 13. Specification 723,779 is referred to.
