Abstract

<PICT:0728414/IV (a)/1> In a machine for the continuous spinning of textile fibres requiring wet-processing treatments, e.g. viscose rayon, and comprising two rollers 12, 13 arranged with their axes slightly skew and tilted with respect to the horizontal so that a thread 10 led on to the rollers at their lower end progresses, upon rotation of at least one of the rollers, in a helical path around the rollers to their upper end, the roller 12 is divided along its length into a number of treatment zones which are separated by resilient flexible bands such as 18, 19, 20 supported upon the roller 12 and a further supporting device, such as an auxiliary roller 14 or respective pulleys mounted on a shaft whose axis is parallel to that of the roller 12. By means of the separating bands 18 &c. treatment liquids fed via orifices 24, 25 &c. to their respective zones are prevented from contaminating each other and may be collected in respective troughs 27, 28 &c. and re-used, while the thread 10 may pass freely along the rollers 12 and 13. In the arrangement shown the bands are prevented from progressing by means of forks 21, 22 &c. In an alternative arrangement separate fixed grooved pulleys are used in place of the roller 14. In either case, the forks or the pulleys may be moved longitudinally to alter the widths of the various treatment zones; means may be provided whereby this may be effected during the actual operation of the device. The separation bands shown are of rectangular section; alternative sections may be used to allow a more effective separation of the treatment liquors. Means may also be provided for scraping off any liquid attached to the bands as they leave the roller 12.
