Apparatus for twisting a roving in a ring- spinning frame comprises a pair of co-operating members rotatable about axes parallel to the roving which is guided between the members. In Fig. 4, the rollers 14 are each of hard rubber with a rim 14a and are fixed by screws to shafts rotated by pulleys 29 and carried by arms 17a, 20a, the latter being adjustable relatively to arm 17a according to the count of the roving. In Fig. 1, for each roving, a pair of rollers 14 is arranged between front and back drafting rollers 8, 9, 8a, 9a, the rollers 8, 9 being cylinders having fixed axes, and the rollers 8a, 9a being carried in pairs by a resiliently-stressed assembly 10, 11. The arms 17a, 20a are carried by a member 16 which can be reciprocated relatively to the frame to traverse the roving across the drafting-rollers. Arms 17a are carried by members 17, Fig. 2, secured to the member 16 and arms 20a by sleeves 20 screwed at 22 to shafts 23 slidable in tubes 19 fixed to members 18 upstanding from member 16. The screws 22 pass into the shafts 23 through slots 19a in the tubes 19, and the shafts 23 can be moved relatively to the tubes by a micrometer arrangement 25 with a scale to indicate the spacing between the rollers. The rollers 14 are oppositely rotated by belts 28 passing over a common driving cylinder 27, one belt driving a pair of rollers at each side of the machine. The roving is drawn from a supply 6 and suction devices 12 remove the roving from the spinning-zone should a break occur.
