Abstract

<PICT:0654483/IV (a)/1> <PICT:0654483/IV (a)/2> An apparatus for treating filamentary strands with liquids and/or drying the same, comprises means for conveying the strand S through a series of adjacent convolutions having a figure-eight configuration by two rotors 3 and 4 laterally spaced apart, said rotors having one or more axially-extending peripheral strand-bearing surfaces which are free from grooves extending circumferentially of the rotor, means for applying liquid to the strand as it passes over the rotors and/or means for heating the rotors. The rotors which in Figs. 1 and 2 are of a substantially cylindrical construction may also be stepped or tapered for the purpose of either stretching the strand during the treatment or for allowing the shrinkage thereof during such treatment. Other modifications are illustrated. Specifications 489,781 and 545,250 are referred to.ALSO:<PICT:0654483/IV (c)/1> <PICT:0654483/IV (c)/2> An apparatus for treating filamentary strands with liquids and/or drying the same comprises means for conveying the strand S through a series of adjacent convolutions having a figure eight configuration by two rotors 3 and 4 laterally spaced apart, said rotors having one or more axially extending peripheral strandbearing surfaces which are free from grooves extending circumferentially of the rotor, means for rotating the rotors in opposite directions, and means for applying liquid to the strand as it passes over the rotors and/or means for heating the rotors. The rotors which in Figs. 1 and 2 are of substantially cylindrical construction may also be stepped or tapered for the purpose of either stretching the strand during the treatment or for allowing the shrinkage thereof during such treatment. Other modifications are illustrated. Specifications 489,781 and 545,250 are referred to.
