Abstract

In break-spinning to avoid uneveness in the degree of twist in the spun yarn, the inlet to the channel through which the yarn is withdrawn is situated at or near the axis about which the spinning chamber rotates, and the axis of the channel is directed in a straight line from the collecting surface to the delivery rollers. The spinning chamber is in the conventional form of two opposed frustoconical parts with a collecting-surface 4 when they join, and it is closed by a stationary solid body 10 in which the channel is formed by an oblique bore 8 which is substantially in line with the rotational axis and lies along a line which meets the wall of the chamber at the collecting-surface. The fibres to be spun are fed in through a channel 3 in the body. The spun yarn is withdrawn by delivery rollers 6 to be taken up on a bobbin. As the chamber rotates, when the take-off point of the yarn is above the inlet of the channel, there is a difference in the degree of twist in the portion of yarn between the rollers and the inlet, compared with that of the portion in the channel. This difference is neutralized by the twist running back to the portion in the chamber as the take-off point moves, as the chamber rotates, to a position in line with the inclined channel.
