Abstract
723,484. Reservoir pens ; nibs. WAGNER, E. V. Sept. 30, 1953 [Oct. 3, 1952], No. 24819/52. Class 146 (3). In a reservoir pen having a nib and feed-bar so surrounded by the nose or forward portion of the barrel that only a tip portion of the nib protrudes through a nib-slot in the nose, the split a<SP>1</SP> of the nib a from the root up to almost the extreme tip of the nib is covered by a longitudinally-bowed tongue b spot-welded to the nib at c and acting to space the nib resiliently from the upper part of the nose. The nib may be made of gold plated spring steel, and the tongue of stainless spring steel. As shown, the pen is of the kind described in Specification 712,920, wherein the nose d is slotted to allow the nib a to protrude, and the tongue b acts as a medial spacer ensuring the admission of air between the back of the nib and the upper border d<SP>1</SP> of the nose to allow the usual ink-air exchange in the reservoir. The feed-bar of the pen is of a yielding material such as polythene or polystyrene, and may be as described in Specification 712,931. It is stated that the provision of the tongue b facilitates accurate assembly of the pen and obviates high accuracy in the sizes of the components.
